The course aims to provide students with a critical understanding of the main theories and schools of development thought, examining their historical evolution and different interpretations. Particular attention will be paid to the impact of colonialism and global capitalism on poverty and economic growth in countries of the Global South. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically assess the strategies and policies adopted by governmental and non-governmental institutions to address poverty and humanitarian crises.
