The aim of the course is to provide an essential picture of the concepts and theoretical perspectives that can be used to observe and account in a sociologically appropriate way for the main phenomena of contemporary social reality

At the end of the course the student has:
- knowledge and ability to use the basic sociological lexicon
- ability to apply sociological concepts to the analysis of the main phenomena and processes that characterize the transformations of contemporary society

Programme

The course will present problems and concepts common to the main sociological theories, with reference to both classical and contemporary authors.
The first objective of the course is to show the traceable and available traces of a class of objects with their own characteristics and referable to a distinguishable domain: the social.
The second objective is to show some of the results of the use of sociological theories and concepts in the study of contemporary social reality and in particular of society.

Core Documentation

The examination will focus on the following texts:
Weber M., Economics and society (Part one: Sociological category theory: I - Fundamental sociological concepts; II - Fundamental sociological categories of economic action; III - Types of power; IV - Classes and classes). In any edition.
Diotallevi L., The imperfect order. Modernity, state, secularization, Rubbettino, Soveria Mannelli 2014.
Diotallevi L., End of stroke. The crisis of Christianity as a confessional religion, Dehoniane, Bologna 2017.
Each of the texts indicated above can be replaced with another book or with two essays. If the alternative texts did not come from the bibliography cited in the texts indicated above, the replacements must be approved by the teacher via e-mail and the latter must be printed at the time of the exam interview.
Those who wish can agree on a personalized program with the teacher, provided they are adequately motivated.

Reference Bibliography

During the lessons further reading indications will be provided. Students will be warmly suggested to adopt the library as their usual place of study and research.
