Paolo Visca, Deputy Rector of Roma Tre University since 13 July 2022, delegate for the coordination of research activities, Full Professor in the scientific – disciplinary sector BIO/19 Microbiology. From 1 November 2021 to 22 July 2022 he was head of the Department of Science, member of the Academic Senate of Roma Tre University and coordinator of the Research Commission. He was member of the Board of Trustees of Roma Tre University for three terms 2006-2010, 2010-2013 and 2016-2019.
He coordinated from 2007 to 2021 the PhD in Science and Biomedical Technologies within the Department of Science. From 2019 to 2021 he has been Head of the Italian Association of General Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology.
He has been first Assistant Professor at the “Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS)” till 1998. From 1999 to 2009 he managed the Research Unit in Molecular Microbiology at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases ”Lazzaro Spallanzani”.
He is a member of the National Committee for Biosafety, Biotechnologies and Life Sciences at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (http://presidenza.governo.it/biotecnologie/).
His main research interests are in medical bacteriology particularly emerging virulence, antimicrobial and chemotherapeutics resistance, the development of new antimicrobial drugs, pathogenic mechanisms, bacteria response to chemical and physical stresses. His research also focuses on environmental microbiology, microbial biodiversity, molecular classification of prokaryotes that he manages with modern omics technologies. He has a scientific production of over 250 works on journals that gathered over 10.000 citations and has an index H=54 (Scopus data at 20 July 2022; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6128-7039). He is on the editorial panel of one of the most prestigious international journals in the field of “Microbiology”
