The laboratory aims to provide students with basic knowledge and skills to understand and practice television journalism, with particular attention to audiovisual languages, news formats, and the professional contexts of television production.
At the end of the laboratory, students will have acquired:
• knowledge of the specific characteristics of television journalism, its languages, and the main models of news production for the television medium;
• the ability to critically analyze television news products, distinguishing genres, formats, and narrative styles of newscasts, in-depth programs, and thematic information;
• basic skills in the main techniques of television journalism, such as writing for images, conducting television interviews, constructing news reports, and preparing rundowns;
• the ability to use sources and audiovisual materials responsibly, in compliance with the professional, ethical, and deontological standards of journalism;
• tools to understand the stages of television newsroom work, from news gathering to broadcasting;
• the ability to orient themselves with respect to the main professional profiles in television journalism and the working contexts of audiovisual information.

There are no required textbooks; attending students should take notes during class. Non-attending students must agree on the syllabus directly with the professor.
The exam will be exclusively oral for all exam sessions.
This course serves as a key prerequisite for the Television Journalism course, which took place in the first semester (October–December 2026) and will be offered again in October 2027.
A television newsroom environment will be created in the classroom; students must write one article per week on a topic agreed upon with the professor—material that will be included in press reviews for major Italian embassies worldwide. The course also features a simulated TV news broadcast in the classroom, with anchors and reporters positioned around the room as if they were on location. Each student is required to produce a TV news-style segment to be posted online.
Mobile-phone-produced investigative reports on topics proposed by one or more students, followed by in-class commentary.
In-class discussion of films provided by the instructor as teaching material.
In-class discussion of a topic chosen and presented by a student, with active participation and commentary from the rest of the class.

Prerequisiti
The only requirement for attending the Television Journalism Workshop is the student's willingness to gain practical experience in the field—through activities such as writing articles, conducting small-scale investigations (including group projects), and participating in classroom debates on topics proposed by the instructor. The workshop serves as a preparatory course for the Television Journalism class; students may choose to attend either the workshop or the course alone, though attending both provides a more comprehensive journalistic education. While attendance is strongly recommended, it is not mandatory; there are no required textbooks, as the material is based on classroom notes.Core Documentation
