Programme

Lectures:
This module aims to introduce students to some of the key concepts of translation theory (equivalence, functionalist and descriptive approaches, translation and culture). After an initial focus on translation-based text analysis, students will be shown how to apply translation strategies, instruments and resources (grammar books, dictionaries and corpora) in translating simple texts from English into Italian.
Translation tasks will be associated with a variety of text types and genres.

Language improvement classes:
Activities aimed at developing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills at B2+/C1 level (first language students), B2 (second language students).

Third year, first language (LLE)

Achievement of C1 level in receptive skills, B2+ in productive skills (first language students).

a) knowledge and understanding of the main features of the foreign language;
b) ability to communicate ideas, attitudes and intentions;
c) ability to analyze written texts using acquired knowledge;
d) ability to use translation resources and tools;
e) knowledge and understanding of theoretical and methodological issues relating to translation as linguistic and cultural mediation;
f) ability to apply acquired knowledge to texts used in selected professional contexts;
g) autonomous learning skills.

Translation of short texts from a variety of genres and specialised domains.


Third year, second language (LLE)
