One of the main aims of this Course of Study is to provide students with advanced knowledge of two foreign literatures related to the two languages of their choice, paying special attention to intercultural and transcultural dynamics. The course also aims at refining their ability to interpret cultural phenomena, using the tools and methodologies of literary, cultural and historical analysis.
Spanish Literature II is among the characterizing activities of the "Foreign Literatures" area. It allows students to deepen their knowledge of Spanish Literature in the period between the 16th and 21st centuries, with special attention to intercultural dynamics and the theoretical-methodological debate; it helps students master the tools and methodologies of literary, cultural and historical analysis.
At the end of the module, students will reach a good critical ability in the interpretation of exemplary texts in the original language, as well as the necessary competence for oral rewording, translation, rewriting and adaptation in Italian of the texts themselves. They will also be able to re-elaborate and communicate disciplinary knowledge in a specialized and non-specialized intercultural context.

Programme

The course will explore the evolution of Spanish prose from a diachronic perspective; in particular, the different declinations of the relationship between author, narrator and character will be examined. The student will be led to have a good knowledge of Spanish fiction between the XVII century and the early XX century through a critical reading of the texts indicated.
The course will be structured around the following points:
- theory of the analysis of the narrative text;
- reading and analysis of the texts also in relation to their relationship with the literary context to which they belong.

Type of delivery of the course

The course will take place according to different types of assisted teaching, consisting of lectures alongside other activities, such as: presentations and / or group work in the classroom (or via the Microsoft Teams platform), written exercises that can be evaluated. The section dedicated to the methodological approach on the analysis of the narrative text will take place in the first part of the course through lectures. For the analysis and commentary of the works indicated in the program in the section 'Texts', as well as for the notions dedicated to the historical and cultural reference framework of the various works, the lectures will be combined with the other forms of assisted teaching indicated above. In case of persistence of the emergency Covid-19, the lessons will take place remotely on the Microsoft Teams platform.

Attendance

Active and constant attendance is highly recommended for an adequate preparation of the exam. During the course, the attending student will be led to carry out ongoing exercises that will contribute for a 30% to the final evaluation of the skills. Non-attending students are invited to contact the teacher at least two months before the exam. During the interview, the teacher will indicate the specific program for the 'non-attending' mode and will give all the information and supplementary didactic materials for the individual study. Those studentes who have not followed this process will not be allowed to take the exam.

Type of evaluation

An ongoing evaluation of the theoretical-methodological and literary notions is foreseen through a series of individual exercises and presentations and / or group work assigned in the classroom (or on the Microsoft Teams platform) to be carried out both in written and oral form. The ongoing exercises will contribute for a 30% to the final evaluation; the remaining 70% will derive from the final oral exam. In the event of an extension of the Covid-19 emergency, all the procedures for carrying out the student assessment will be implemented. In particular, the final exam will take place through the use of the Microsoft Teams platform.
