One of the main aims of this Course of Study is to provide students with advanced knowledge of two foreign literatures related to the two languages of their choice, paying special attention to intercultural and transcultural dynamics. The course also aims at refining their ability to interpret cultural phenomena, using the tools and methodologies of literary, cultural and historical analysis.
Spanish Literature II is among the characterizing activities of the "Foreign Literatures" area. It aims to provide students with an in-depth and advanced knowledge of Spanish literature from the 16th to the 21st centuries, with further development of the understanding of intercultural and transcultural dynamics as well as of the theoretical-methodological debate; it will also provide the tools and methodologies of literary, cultural and historical analysis at an advanced level.
At the end of the module, students will reach an advanced critical ability in the interpretation of exemplary texts in the original language, as well as the necessary competence for oral rewording, translation, rewriting and adaptation in Italian of the texts themselves. They will also be able to re-elaborate and communicate disciplinary knowledge in a specialized and non-specialized intercultural context.

Programme

THEATRE AND POETRY: the verse at the service of the comic, the tragic and the farcical
Through the critical reading of a selection of significant texts of Spanish theatre from the Golden Age to the present day, the student will be guided in the acquisition of specific historical-cultural and methodological skills, with particular regard to the relationship that, in diachrony, the theatrical genre has established with verse writing. They will also have the opportunity to apply the skills acquired during classroom practice and sharing activities.

A) Historical-literary and cultural competences
- The evolution of poetic forms between tradition and innovation;
- The evolution of theatre from corrales to contemporary drama performance spaces;

B) Methodological skills
- Methodologies of approach to socio-historical and cultural phenomena;
- Methodologies of approach to literary phenomena, with particular attention to the diachronic evolution of the poetic and theatrical genres;
- Methodologies of analysing the theatrical text (stylistic-formal and dramaturgical approach, with particular attention to the structuring use of verse writing).

Type of delivery of the course

PLEASE NOTE: The course will take place in the second semester of the academic year 2023/2024. The course will consist of 30 meetings of two hours each, to which will be added other scheduled assisted activities (for a load of 12 hours plus the student's autonomous work), announced through institutional channels and during the course itself, in accordance with procedures specifically indicated in the same venues. The 30 meetings will be divided between frontal lectures (especially aimed at the acquisition of historical-literary and cultural skills) and guided activities of analysis of the literary text (including exercises, also with the possible aim of in itinere assessment) for the acquisition of methodological skills. The acquisition of all the skills must in any case be supplemented with a congruous individual commitment on the part of the student, who is required to complete and deepen the work carried out in the classroom through the integral reading of the works in the programme (TEXTS ADOPTED) and the study of critical-methodological tools (REFERENCE LIBRARIES).

Attendance

Students who intend to take the examination as frequent participants are strongly advised to participate effectively, dynamically and assiduously in the activities described in the "Running" section, in order to acquire the necessary skills. For non-attending students, there is a specific syllabus, which the student must agree upon in a compulsory cognitive interview at least two months before the call in which he/she intends to take the exam, in order to be registered by the lecturer in the appropriate didactic platform.

Type of evaluation

For attending students, the acquisition of "Historical-literary and cultural competences" will be assessed by means of a written test that will take place before the end of the course and that will give access to the oral test; the acquisition of "Methodological competences" will be assessed during the oral exam by means of activities of analysis and commentary on the texts in the syllabus. At the discretion of the lecturer, who will assess its appropriateness and effectiveness on the basis of the actual delivery methods made possible by the healthcare situation, in itinere assessment activities may be envisaged during the course. In any case, skills not tested or assessed as insufficient in the classroom or by means of the written test will be checked during the oral test, which will take place on the dates of the examination dates in accordance with the relevant provisions in force at the time. For non-attending students, the acquisition of all competences will be verified during the oral examination, which will take place on the dates of the examination dates.
