Graduates in Languages and Literatures for Teaching and Translation obtain advanced knowledge and understanding in all the subject areas of their training in order to
1) consolidate and develop their competence in European and American Studies, with particular attention to their literature of specialisation;
2) deepen their knowledge of the two foreign languages chosen, achieving a heightened competence in the language of specialization and an advancement in the second language;
3) reach enhanced awareness of the linguistic features of their language of specialisation, both from a diachronic and a synchronic perspective;
4) reach an adequate knowledge of the most advanced methodologies for the analysis of literary texts;
5) handle confidently the theoretical-practical tools for teaching and for translation.

Teatro español: dramaturgia y representación/ Spanish theatre: dramaturgy and performance is one of the characterising modules of the programme. It aims at consolidating written and spoken skills and autonomous critical analysis of theatrical works belonging to different periods and framed within their linguistic, literary, and dramaturgical dimensions. Special emphasis will be given to the relation between the theatrical text and its staging realisation (also using audio-visual materials) and to the translation processes to which a theatrical text is submitted (e.g. literary translation and subtitling). The unit also aims at deepening practical and theoretical competences on literature teaching methodologies, with a special focus on the use of the theatrical text in teaching practices.
At the end of the module, students will be able to: analyse, translate and realise stage or screen adaptations of a text; evaluate the interrelations between literary language and languages belonging to other artistic forms; translate theatrical texts; communicate in oral and written form about the module contents (advanced level); apply theoretical and methodological tools to the context of literature teaching.

Programme

STAGING AS AN INTERPRETATIVE PRACTICE OF THE DRAMATIC TEXT: CHALLENGES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE AND THE DIDACTICS OF LITERATURE IN THE EFL CLASSROOM.
The course aims to provide students with the tools and methodologies for the dramaturgical analysis of theatrical texts from classical and contemporary times, with special focus on the study of current staging practices. The dramatic text will also be analysed from the perspective of its realisation in staging, also through the use and analysis of video materials. Finally, the course aims to deepen practical and theoretical reflections on the didactics of literature, with special focus on the use of theatre in a didactic perspective.

The reading and analysis of the texts will be accompanied by the viewing and analysis of recordings of various productions.

Type of delivery of the course

The course will be of a seminar nature and will take place through a total of 15 meetings of two hours each (see attendance procedures), to which will be added other scheduled assisted activities equivalent to tutorials (for a load of 6 hours plus the student's autonomous work), made known through the Microsoft TEAMS platform and during the course itself, according to the procedures specifically indicated in the same venues.

Attendance

Students who intend to take the examination as frequent participants are strongly advised to participate effectively, dynamically and assiduously in the activities described in the "Running" section, in order to acquire the necessary skills. For non-attending students, there is a specific syllabus, which the student must agree upon in a compulsory cognitive interview at least two months before the call in which he/she intends to take the exam, in order to be registered by the lecturer in the appropriate didactic platform.

Type of evaluation

Possession of the prerequisites and consolidation of knowledge will be checked by means of a compulsory test, after the first lessons of the course, whose sole purpose is to identify any gaps and to provide any supporting critical material. The acquisition of "Methodological skills" will be assessed by means of: a) in itinere activities of analysis and interpretation of the theatrical texts in the programme; b) in itinere activities of analysis and interpretation of the performances in the programme; c) creation of a didactic unit for learning Spanish literature through theatre. Skills not tested in seminar form will be assessed by means of an oral exam.
