teacher profile teaching materials
The course aims to explore the professional discipline starting from its core concepts and specific
terminology, and to connect theoretical references to operational practice and the methodological
framework of the profession, with regard to the main interlocutors of the social worker: the individual
and the family context, the community context and its aggregations, public organizations, third-sector
agencies, and voluntary organizations. The objective is to provide students with knowledge and
analytical tools that allow them to integrate theoretical learning with the practical training experience
of internship.
Topics
• Professional social work: definitions and concepts.
• The mandates and responsibilities of the social worker:
o Social complexity and processes of integration and inclusion,
o Individual/social needs and personal/community/institutional resources.
• The social worker between theory and practice: reflexivity in the perspective of continuing
education and experiential learning.
• Theoretical references and operational perspectives in social work: theoretical/operational
models of social work, the anti-oppressive approach.
• The helping process: the helping relationship, the method — from a project-based logic to
the methodological framework (context, procedure, techniques and tools).
Teaching Methodology and Learning Assessment
The course includes frontal lectures aimed at the theoretical presentation of content, as well as the
use of active methodology through experiential exercises on theoretical and methodological content,
in order to develop reflective competencies and tools for conceptualizing experience. Intermediate
assessments of the learning process are also planned, through exercises, classroom discussions, and
possible written assignments that may contribute to the formulation of the final grade. The final
assessment will be in both written and oral form.
