Acquisition of knowledge and operational skills related to observation as a technique to analyze infant behaviour, focusing on communicative and linguistic behavior.

By the study of Observational method in developmental psychology the student will be able to achieve the following training objectives.

- Knowledge and understanding:
Knowledge of method, techniques, tools for the psychological observation of children behaviors.

- Applying knowledge and understanding:
Capacity to apply the observational techniques for analyzing the children communicative and linguistic development.

- Making judgements:
Ability to choose the adequate techniques and assess the appropriateness of the observation procedures used.

- Communication skills:
Master the specific language of observational methods.

- Learning skills:
Attitude to life-long learning on the observational methods apply in psychology.

Type of evaluation

The exam consists of 24 questions: 20 multiple-choice and 4 open-ended. Each correct multiple-choice answer is worth 1 point, while incorrect or unanswered questions receive 0 points. The open-ended questions are scored from 0 to 3 points each. The maximum time allowed is 40 minutes. Students with Specific Learning Disorders or disabilities may be granted extra time (30% or 50%), upon official request through the University Inclusion System management platform. During the course, two assignments will be proposed: (1) analysis of a project on the observation of child behavior; (2) writing a linguistic profile of a child aged between 8 and 24 months, based on the analysis of the “First Vocabulary of the Child” questionnaire completed by the parents. Successful completion of both assignments allows students to earn up to 2 additional points, which are added to the final score of the written exam.
