Programme
The course investigates the history of childhood in the West between the 18th and 20th centuries through the analysis of a variety of historiographical sources. The following topics will be the subject of analysis:1. The discovery of the "sentiment of childhood" and the identification of a new conceptualization of childhood;
2. The evolution of family relationships in the West between spouses and between parents and children;
3. The transformation of actual educational practices towards models of greater intimacy and nurturing;
4. The differences between various childhood experiences, considering not only different historical periods but also gender and class distinctions.
