20410207 - Biochimica della nutrizione

The Nutrition Biochemistry course is aimed at providing to the students the basic knowledge to understand the molecular mechanisms by which the human organism uses macro- and micro-nutrients to produce the energy needed to maintain the order which characterizes every living being.
In particular, the objectives of the course are the comprehension of the pathways through which the different groups of nutrients (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, vitamins and minerals) and other substances of natural and non-natural origin (ethanol, stimulant beverages, xenobiotics) are assimilated and transformed in the human body, and how they influence its metabolic status.
Finally, one of the aims is also that of illustrating the production of reactive oxygen species linked to metabolism and the protective role exerted by antioxidant compounds of dietary origin.

RECEPTION TIME: Monday 10 am

Type of delivery of the course

Module A of the Biochemistry of Nutrition course is a theoretical course that takes place in the second semester (March-April). Exceptionally for this academic year, due to COVID19 emergency, the course is will be delivered remotely, with two lessons (PowerPoint presentations) per week. The teacher establishes a Dropbox folder with which she shares the teaching material with the students. Complete lessons (video and audio) are delivered to the students by WeTransfer. All students interested in the course are asked to contact the teacher Alessandra di Masi at the following address: alessandra.dimasi@uniroma3.it

Type of evaluation

The exam consists of two written exemptions regarding module A that will take place during the course semester. Each exemption will consist of three open questions. The final grade will derive from the average of the marks obtained in the two exemptions. This vote will then be mediated with the grade obtained in the exemption of module B. In the event that the student has not carried out one or two exemptions or wishes to increase the grade obtained, she/he can perform the oral exam in relation to the parts of the program covered by the exemption, on the established dates. The student who does not intend to carry out the exemptions during the semester can directly carry out the oral exam on the established dates. The final grade will evaluate the following parameters: a) Appropriateness, correctness, and congruity of acquired knowledge and skills; b) Appropriate use of the specific language of the discipline; c) Expressive capacity; d) Logical skills; e) Synthesis skills; f) Ability to link different topics. Consequently, the judgment could be: a) Sufficient (from 18 to 20/30) b) Fair (from 21 to 23) c) Voucher (from 24 to 26) d) Excellent (from 27 to 29) e) Excellent (30) Praise is attributed to candidates clearly above the average, and whose possible notional, expressive, conceptual and logical limits are altogether irrelevant.

Type of delivery of the course

The Nutrition Biochemistry course is a theoretical course held in the second semester (march-may) and organized into two weekly lessons of two hours with the use of digital media.

Attendance

Attendance is optional but highly recommended as it facilitates the achievement of positive results in the written tests.

Type of evaluation

For the second module of the course there will be a written test during the course and a final oral test on the established dates. The final grade will evaluate the following parameters: a) Appropriateness, correctness and congruity of acquired knowledge and skills; b) Appropriate use of the specific language of the discipline; c) Expressive capacity; d) Logical skills; e) Synthesis skills; f) Ability to link different topics. Consequently, the final grade can be: a) Sufficient (from 18 to 20/30) b) Fair (from 21 to 23) c) Good (from 24 to 26) d) Optimum (from 27 to 29) e) Excellent (30) The "laude" is attributed to candidates clearly above the average, and whose eventual notional, expressive, conceptual and logical limits are altogether irrelevant.
