Basic knowledge and ability to understand classical archaeology as a study of Greek and Roman art in its historical development through the analysis of the most significant architectural achievements, urban planning, artistic and craft produced in the Mediterranean regions from the twelfth century B.C. to the fifth century A.D. ability to communicate orally information and ideas.

Programme
he course will examine the main figurative, architectural, urban, and craft productions of the Greek and Roman worlds, considered in their historical development and within their respective geographical, social, political, economic, and cultural contexts. Particular attention will be devoted to the Greek world, from the Protogeometric period to the Hellenistic age, through the analysis of significant works, monuments, artistic productions, and contexts across the different regions of the Mediterranean. The section devoted to the Roman world will be addressed through selected thematic units and case studies, with special reference to its relationship with the Greek tradition, to processes of reception and reinterpretation of models, and to the principal forms of figurative and monumental communication.Core Documentation

Assessment will take the form of an oral examination. The interview will assess students’ knowledge of the topics covered during the course, their ability to analyse and contextualise works of art, images, monuments, and contexts, as well as their ability to establish connections between the main themes addressed. The evaluation will take into account knowledge of the course contents, the use of appropriate disciplinary terminology, clarity of expression, and the ability to argue coherently.
