The purpose of the course is the acquisition of tools aimed at philological reconstruction, analysis and exegesis of texts in Latin and vernacular, produced in Medieval and Humanistic ages, with particular reference to: ecdotic problems, study of sources and cultural contexts.

The first section of the course will address methodological aspects and issues relating to philological and critical work on various types of medieval and humanistic texts, in both Latin and the vernacular. The second section, entitled ‘Seneca between Petrarch and Boccaccio’, will focus on the presence of Seneca’s works in the libraries of the two authors, both among autograph manuscripts and annotated ones, whilst also examining certain issues relating to knowledge of the Cordubense in the 14th century (in particular the so-called ‘question of the two Senecas’).
