Programme

A postmodern weekend: new media and new images for Italian art, 1976-1983.
The course aims to provide students with the documents and iconographic repertoire of artistic research developed in Italy from the mid-1970s. With particular attention to the cultural and political Bologna milieu, the contents of lectures will deal with the entourage of Renato Barilli and specifically with the critical activity of Francesca Alinovi. As far as the new artistic researches defined as postmodern concerned, a first focus will be on the media different from the traditional ones, such as painting and sculpture, to investigate photography, video and performance. Moreover, a second one will be on the art system in Bologna between the politics of the counterculture and the so-called disengagement season, apolitical and hedonistic. With particular attention to the activity of the Studio G7 Gallery, the main goal will be to reconstruct the network where Barilli, Alinovi with Claudio Marra and artists such as Luigi Ontani, Luigi Mainolfi, Andrea Pazienza and Luca Patella, have represented a possible Italian postmodern paradigm.
